Technology and Enterprise

In T & E, we designed a coin that was to represent the Bell Tower, a significant Western Australian landmark. We used skewers to etch our designs into air dry clay and painted them. We then evaluated our products to see how effectively our coins met the success criteria.

Homework Folders

It is an expectation that students being their folder to class each day. Recently, many students have been leaving these at home, making the timely distribution of homework and correspondence difficult. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure they have the equipment they need each day.

Science Superstars Challenge

Congratulations to the students in Room 23 for their fantastic science presentations. The class champions were Alex (Year Two) and Connor (Year Three). Thank you to the parents for your help in preparing the students for their presentations, ensuring they felt confident on the day. Well done!

Life Ed Van

In Week 6, we had a visit from the Harold the giraffe in the Life Ed Van. Harold and Karen taught us about medicines and how to use them safely. We also talked about feelings and things we can do to make ourselves feel better if we’re feeling a bit down. Here are some of the things we learnt:

Investigating Scientifically

In Science, we have been learning about shadows. We conducted an experiment to observe how Sammy the Snail’s shadow changed throughout the day. We concluded that as the sun moved, so did his shadow. It started to the left of Sammy, moved behind him at midday, before ending up behind Sammy.

This week, we are going to be making shadow sticks to further observe how shadows change throughout the day.

Assembly

Congratulations to Trinity, Alex and Andrew who received Merit Awards at the last assembly. Alyssa was also the proud recipient of a special sports award from Mrs Oliver. Joan and Chinmayi were also awarded their blue Literacy Pro certificate for earning 25 quiz points. Keep up the exceptional work, Room 23!

Sadly, we said good bye to Miss S and Miss Crawford at the end of Week 6. We have loved having them in our classroom and enjoyed doing their activities. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them both all the very best for their university studies and future teaching careers.

Gold ‘N’ Bells Excursion

In Week Five, we went on and excursion to the Perth Mint and Bell Tower, as part of our integrated HASS program. First, we went to the Mint. We got to see a demonstration about how gold is put into a big furnace turned from a nugget into a gold bar. We even saw a 1 000 000 dollar gold coin! Next we set of to the Bell Tower. We learnt that it was built in the year 2000, as a special Millennium project. We got to see the big “clangers.” The highlights were going onto the observation deck and getting a 360 degree view of Perth City and having a go at ringing the bells. We may have some future bell ringers in our midst.

Canadian Pen Pals

We were very excited to hear that Ms Roberts had been to see our Canadian pen pals while she was on her holiday. The Year Two teacher, Ms Fulton, and her class had written us a card! Our pen pals live in a place called Taber, which is located in Alberta, Canada. They attend Dr. Hamman School, which is a bit smaller than ours. It is their summer at the moment and they finish school at the end of June. We have posted them letters and hopefully they get them before they go on summer break!
