Dear Parents /Carers,

In Week 5, your child will be asked to present a 2 - 3 minute speech all about themselves, as part of our Speaking and Listening program. Our class presentations will start on the 8th of March.

I will be assessing them on their volume, speed, voice, body language, eye contact and their content. Please see the prompt below as a guide. They may also choose to create a poster or Power Point presentation, however,  this is not compulsory.

Parent Info Evening

Thanks to all the parents who took the time to come along to this session. I hope you found it informative. Please check the blog regularly to stay updated.

Assembly

This Friday is our class assembly. Some students also have a small speaking part. They are encouraged to practice at home so they can feel confident on the day. All students are singing the song, “Wombat on a Surfboard,” which can be found on YouTube:

Students will need to arrive promptly at 8:30, dressed in their beach wear. They will need to bring their uniform to change into afterwards. I can’t wait! Thanks for your support,

Miss B

Maths Update

In Maths, we have been learning to be flexible with numbers and work out multiple solutions to problems. We have also been revising ordering numbers and identifying number patterns. The strategy we have been focusing on is counting on. This strategy is useful for when we are adding on 1, 2 or 3.

Reading is a Hoot!

In our classroom, I foster a love of reading. The students are encouraged to read a wide range of literature and try out new genres. A trip to the local library is also a fun way to develop healthy reading habits. The last few weeks we have been focusing on connecting. Connecting is when we make links between a part of the text and other things that we have read or experienced. Here are some photos of students enjoying reading in the classroom. Thanks to Mrs Martyn (Miss B’s former Year One teacher) for her kind donation of cushions for our classroom.

Drop Everything & Talk

Each week, students engage in a discussion about a topic provided by Ms Roberts. Last week, it was great to hear all about their “favourite surprises”- puppies, new toys and parties, just to name a few! This week’s topic is: The best gift you ever received… Each week, we will be selecting some of the children’s responses to feature on the blog. Watch this space!

Bee-rilliant Workers

In our class we have 4 key expectations:

   A positive attitude

·         Active participation

·         Active listening

·         Kindness and respect

Congratulations to the students who have received Buzzy Bee in the last fortnight for showcasing these things.

Congratulations

The votes are in! Congratulations to Max and Reva who were selected by their peers to represent Room 14 as members of the Student Council this semester. Both students are very responsible and have demonstrated the ability to share ideas respectfully. I am sure you are going to do a fantastic job!

Aussie Day Fundraiser

To demonstrate our Australian spirit and our school motto of Give to Receive”, we conducted a special Celebrate Australia Day fundraiser to raise money for the Lord Mayors Bushfire Appeal. Thank you to all the children and families in Room 14 who donated to this cause and dressed up in their Aussie gear on Friday the 12th of February.

Our school raised

$1680.80

for the Bushfire Appeal

Independence and Responsibility

This term, we are focusing on the students demonstrating independence and responsibility in the classroom. I have been pleased at how the students have taken on their team roles in such a mature manner, demonstrating good co-operation. Every student also has a weekly classroom job. Some of the favourites are Teacher’s Assistant, Paparazzi and Gardener.

First Day Fun

We had an action packed first day! We started off with a class word sleuth, unpacking all our new things and taking a tour of our school, including our new play areas. Next, we played some team building activities and talked about what we hoped the year would be like. In the afternoon, we reflected on the highlights of our first day together. These are featured on our Wow Work Wall.

I feel so grateful to be working with such a hard-working, kind and enthusiastic bunch of students!

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back to school everybody! I trust you have all had a relaxing holiday break. I always look forward to coming back to Wattle Grove Primary and it was lovely to be greeted by so many happy faces on the first day of school. The children have settled in well and are keen to learn lots of new things this year.

Throughout the week, the children visit several specialist teachers.

On Monday they go to Sport with Miss T and Art with Mrs Agar (odd weeks). In the summer months, it is particularly important that the students come to school with a hat and drink bottle each day. On Tuesday, it’s Italian with Mrs Isaia. Wednesday is Music with Mr Honey and on Thursday, the children visit the library. They will need to remember their books and library bag to be able to borrow new books. The students are also very excited to be doing fortnightly ICT lessons in the lab with Mr Wallis this year.

I am really looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Please check this page regularly to keep up to date with all the exciting things happening in Room 14.
