Parent Night

Thank you to all those parents who attended. If you were unable to join us, the notes from the evening will be in your child’s folder. I am really looking forward to working with your children this year!

Homework

Just a reminder that your child will have new homework sent home each Monday. In Year 3, it is expected that students will engage in 15 minutes of reading a night. Please sign the reading log in the front of their Motivation Journal. In addition, they will have one spelling activity to complete. The instructions are glued into the front of their Motivation Journal and children should be familiar with the tasks. They have a full week to complete the practice sheet, which is a revision of concepts learnt in class. If children are unsure of any concepts, I am happy to explain it to them in the morning.

Thanks for your support and dedication to your child’s education.

Aussie Day

Last Friday, we celebrated Aussie Day. The students looked AMAZING! All the funds raised, through your generous donations, will be going to the Active Kids Foundation.

Motivation Monday

To improve the students’ comprehension skills, each Monday we have been analysing a famous quote. The quote from this week was, ‘In a gentle way, you can shake the world’ Ghandi. Our ideas are posted in the Collab Corner.

The Power of Persuasion

In writing, we have been developing success criteria for writing effective persuasive texts. This week, we have focused on the elements of a strong introduction.

Predicting

This week our focus comprehension strategy is predicting. We use clues from the text to work out what might happen next. We can make a prediction before, during or even after reading. Remember, good readers are like detectives! Happy reading!

Doubles Fun

In Maths, we have been revising our double facts. We played some fun games to improve the speed of our recall. To double a number, you add the same number twice or multiply it by two, making it twice as big. We also investigated the relationship between doubles and halves.

We Are Making Tomorrow!

In our school Administration Block, we have a quote that says, “This is a magic place, we are making tomorrow.” We talked about what this meant and discussed what we thought made Wattle Grove Primary a special place to learn and play in. Here are some of our ideas:

“Wattle Grove is a magic place because everyone gives 120%, working together to make a brighter future.” Miss B

“Wattle Grove is a magic place because we have a nice, tidy school. You can learn and everybody is friendly.” Deep

“Wattle Grove is a magic place because we make new friendships every day.” Indi B

“Wattle Grove is a magic place because everyone gives 100%. We work together to achieve our goals.” Navshan

First Day Fun

We had an action packed first day. We started off by sharing about our holidays, unpacking all our new things and taking a tour of our school, including our new play areas.

Next, we played “Find Someone Who” Bingo, using the Kagan structure ‘Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up.’ We also completed a graphing activity around our first day feelings. Here are some of our reflections from Day 1:

“When I entered my new classroom I was like, “Wow, this looks amazing!” Tylah

“I was happy when I found out that all my friends were in my classroom.” Chelsea

“My day was great, amazing and cool.” Layla

“My teacher is nice to everyone in the class.” Canaan
