Genius Hour
In HASS, we used QR codes to research some different Australian
celebrations and commemorations.
Here are some of our findings:

Super Readers
We are very excited that Literacy Pro is up and running. Our class goal
is to read 150 000 words by the end of Week 8 and we are SO close! Krissy and
Gazal have been doing a sensational job of reading books at their level and
taking lots of quizzes and have both earnt their Red Certificate. Alby and Deep
have been doing a great job too and have each received their Blue Certificate.
Your child’s log in details can be found in their motivation journal. Keep
reading Room 24!
Homework Folders
Just a reminder that students should be bringing their motivation
journal and folder to class each day. This not only ensures they are learning
to be responsible for their belongings but also gives them a place to put any
notes that may be sent home that day.
Thanks for your co-operation,
Miss B.

Talk To Teach
Last week, the students gave a short oral presentation, teaching their
peers a new craft or skill. The quality of the presentations was outstanding
and I sincerely thank you for the work put in at home to ensure that the
students were organised and felt prepared. We learnt how to make planes, ice
biscuits and even some self-defence-just to name a few!
General Knowledge
In HASS, we have been learning about celebrations and commemorations
that that take place both in Australia and the world. Below is the General
Knowledge PowerPoint we use in class, which revises some key concepts and
vocabulary.
Multiplication Masters
We have
also begun out Kung Fu Multiplication Challenge. We began with the super
easy White Belt (1 X table). In order to gain their next belt, students must
complete an oral test with the tables in and out of order, demonstrating rapid
recall. Then, each Friday, they complete a written test, which must be
completed in under 5 minutes. Once students have passed both components, they
move up to the next belt.
Maths Update
In
Maths, we have been looking at multiplication problems. Below the students in
Room 24 enjoying some fun, interactive multiplication tasks. Practice makes
perfect!
In Room 24 ‘We All Fit In!’
We really enjoyed putting together our class puzzle. This is a visual
reminder that in Room 24 we work together, including and respecting our peers.
We talked about how we’re each an important ‘piece of the puzzle.’
Thank you to all the creative parents and other special people who
helped the children decorate their puzzle piece. It was lovely to hear the
students having conversations about the people and things that are special to
them!

Student Council Meeting
Last week, our Student Councillors, Roseleen and Steven represented out
class at the first Student Councillor meeting for 2018. After discussing our
team agenda items, we came together to hold a class meeting. We then had a
democratic vote to choose the item that we would present to Ms Roberts. We
decided to propose that the school should purchase more equipment for the
Senior students to use at lunchtime. We will have to see what the verdict is at
the next Student Councillor meeting!
