Prime Books

Hi everyone,
There are still a number of outstanding payments for the Prime Mathematics text books. A payment must be paid to the school office before the books can be dispersed to your child. These books are a key element of our whole school maths program, therefore, prompt payment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your co-operation,
Miss B

Super Readers!

As you are probably aware, Room 14 have now completed their Literacy Pro assessments and have been logging in and taking quizzes. In just one week, the students have already achieved their weekly goal of reading 100 000 words and have read over 300 000 words! A special mention must go to Mehrry who has already earnt her blue certificate, taking more than 30 quizzes in just 3 days! You will find your child's log in details stapled to the front of their Motivation Journal. This website can be accessed from a computer or smart device.

Well done Room 14- a super effort!

Gardening Fun

Last Friday, Mrs Mullan helped us to plant some beautiful petunias in our class flower pot. Our gardeners, Katie and Joshua, have been doing a wonderful job of watering the seedlings twice a day. We love the bright colours! Thanks to Mrs Mullan for her gardening tips and expertise.

Notes

Just a reminder to check your child’s bag daily, as there are often several notes distributed throughout the week. Just a reminder to return the Curtin University ethics form, if you wish for your child to participate. School photo information was also distributed earlier in the week.

Student Councillors

The votes are in! Congratulations to Amelia and Oscar who were selected by their peers to represent Room 14 as members of the Student Council this semester.

Both students are very responsible and have demonstrated the ability to share ideas respectfully. I am sure you are going to do a fantastic job!

Aussie Day Fundraiser

Thank you to all the students who participated in the Aussie Day fundraiser. Collectively, our school raised $952 to assist the Queensland Flood Appeal. A sensational effort and what a wonderful way to put our school motto, “Give to Receive” into practice.

Talk Homework Week 4

Our Talk homework topic this week is "The Best Pet to Have is..." It could be a real animal or a made up creature, you just need to be able to support your opinion. Spend some time talking to a family member about what pet you would choose and why, ready to share with the class tomorrow.
Happy talking!

Junior Choir

The students in Year 3 are invited to participate in Junior Choir. This runs each Friday morning from 8:30-9:00 am. Upon dismissal from the Undercover Area, students are to walk to the music room if they wish to participate.

Wonderful Writers

The students have been working on developing simple, compound and complex sentences, using the elements of VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation) to 'up-level' their writing. Here are some wonderful examples:

Numero

The students have enjoyed learning to play Numero Challenges. Numero is a fabulous card game that promotes mental mathematics skills and can be enjoyed by players of all ages. Each Friday lunchtime, the students in Room 14 have the opportunity to join other enthusiasts, in the library, for Numero Club.

Reading Comprehension Strategy of the Week

This week, our focus strategy is predicting. We use clues from the text to work out what might happen next. We can make a prediction before, during or after reading. Remember, good readers are like detectives! Happy reading!

We Are Making Tomorrow...

In the school Administration Block, we have a quote that says, "This is a magic place, we are making tomorrow." We talked about what this meant and made discussed what we thought made Wattle Grove Primary such a special place to learn and play in. Here are some of our ideas:

"Wattle Grove is a magic place because everyone gives 120%, working together to make a brighter future." ~Miss B

"Wattle Grove is a magic place because it has many people from different cultures. We can learn about their language and traditions and even their national flag." ~Legacy

"Wattle Grove is a magic place because it has more than 800 people and people are very caring for the environment. The teachers are friendly and they help students when there's a problem." ~Terry

"Wattle Grove is a magic place because some schools don't have playgrounds and technology like we us." ~Amelia

First Day Fun

We had an action packed first day! We started off sharing about our holidays, unpacking all our new things and taking a tour of our school, including our new play areas. Next, we completed a graphing activity about our first day feelings. In the afternoon, we played some 'Getting to Know You' board games in our Kagan Home Teams. I feel so grateful to be working with such a hard working, kind and enthusiastic bunch of students!
