Happy Holidays

The students have worked extremely hard this term and should be proud of their achievements. Please note, there will be no homework in Week 10 as students will be revising concepts. The holidays are a great time to relax and have some fun; however, it is also a great time to practice some of the skills we’ve learnt this term.
Why not try one of these ideas?
·         Read a book
·         Learn your times tables
·         Find angles in the home
·         Follow a procedure or recipe
·         Research an interesting event
·         Keep a holiday diary

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday ~Miss B

Book Fair

Just a reminder that the P & C are hosting a Scholastic Book Fair this week. It is being held in the BER Room (in the K/PP area) and open for students to purchase books before and after school. The P & C are hoping to raise enough funds to be able to donate new books to all classrooms. Thanks for your support!

Genius Hour

The students have been enjoying working on their Genius Hour Projects. They have learnt lots of important skills including; forming questions, summarising and paraphrasing, research skills, comparing and contrasting using a venn diagram, basic ICT skills and the list goes on! I can’t wait to see the final presentations next week!

Super Scientist

I was very impressed with how the students prepared and delivered their Super Scientist experiments in class. A special congratulations to Mehrry and Noel for being selected as the Room 14 finalists. These students will be presented with a certificate at the Super Scientist assembly that is being held on Wednesday of week 10.

Reading Comprehension

Our focus this week has been comparing. We have also revised connecting, as the two work together. When comparing, we look at the differences and similarities between texts. We can compare visual and written texts, or even people and objects!

Poe'tree'

In writing we have been learning about Cinquain poems. They have five lines and contain lots of descriptive language. We went on a nature walk and collected lots of leaves, talking about their unique features. We then wrote a poem about them and built a poe‘tree’ (pun intended).

Road Safety

In Health, we have been learning about road safety. We were very fortunate to get a visit from Constable Care and the RAC who gave us so many tips on how to stay safe on the roads.

Here are some of the things we learnt:

Always cross the road with a responsible adult ~Ashton
If you’re in a car, don’t hop out on the road side~ Kent
If there’s no crosswalk, try not to step out from between two parked cars ~Liam
Stop, look, listen and think before crossing the street ~Oscar
Always wear appropriate clothing when riding a bike ~Kate
Walk across crosswalks with your bike or scooter, don’t ride it ~Maya

Congratulations

Congratulations to Katie, Parker and Joshua for winning Merit Awards at the last Senior Assembly. Congratulations also to Terry and Joshua, for earning their silver and bronze Lit Pro awards. This is a huge achievement.

Shadow Investigation

We made the most of the autumn sunshine to complete a shadow investigation. The students worked with a partner to predict how shadows would change over the day, then, measure and record their findings. It was lots of fun!

Talk Homework- Week 6

This week, the students will be writing a fairy tale...with a twist! They will need to rewrite the story of  'The Three Little Pigs' from the perspective of one of the characters. It could be the wolf, the pigs' mother or even one of the houses! The more creative the better!
