Spring Flower Pot Competition

Today we had a representative from Dawson's Garden World come and judge our class flowerpots. The students did a bee-rilliant job of decorating the pot and creating some fun signage. Thanks to Steph and Jacob who explained Room 14's ideas so articulately.

Parent Interviews

Thank you to all the parents who attended parent interviews on Tuesday afternoon. Just a reminder that Test Books need to be signed and returned by the end of Week 1, Term 4.

Thanks for your support,

Miss B

Senior Assembly

Congratulations to Stephanie, Tahlia and Ananya who received Merit Certificates at the last Senior Assembly. All three girls show a strong commitment to achieving personal excellence in all aspects of their schooling.

Sports Superstars

This term, the students have had the opportunity to participate in several Athletics events. The major one being the Faction Carnival, which was held in Week 7. All the students did really well and showed excellent behaviour and sportsmanship. Well done Purple on yet another win! Congratulations to Maddi B and Indi on being chosen to represent Wattle Grove at the Interschool Athletics Team. They did us very proud and Wattle Grove won the competition for the 5th year in a row!

TEAM BLUE- 4th Place

TEAM RED- 3rd Place

TEAM ORANGE- 2nd Place

TEAM PURPLE- CHAMPIONS!

Healthy Living

In Health, the students have been engaging in drug education. We have been discussing the uses of medicines and how to use them safely. The students have been learning to read the dosage and safety warnings on labels of common over the counter medicines.

Science Update

In Science, we have been exploring Biological Science. We have looked at the characteristics of living things, using the acronym ‘MRS GREN,’ and how these are different to non-living, once living and products of living things. The Year Twos have been looking at life cycles and the unique features of plants and animals. The Year 3s have been learning to categorise plants and animals according to their features. On Thursday, we went on a nature walk and collected leaves and then categorised them according to shape, colour, texture etc. During Science Week, Mr Sanderson also put on a Science Show, with lots of cool experiments and tricks!

HASS Update

We have been focusing on Civics and Citizenship. We have been learning about rules, rights and responsibilities and why having rules is important. We have learnt about democracy and put some of these concepts into practice during our class meetings. We have been exploring what makes rules fair or unfair and debated whether equal is fair, using this picture below. It has been so interesting to hear the students’ discussions and ideas around these ‘big questions.’

Maths Update

The students have been revising Maths concepts across the 3 strands; Number, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. They have been completing interactive activities involving time, fractions, money, shape, and chance. The students are now working towards applying these skills to solve real-world problems.

Literacy Update

In English, we have been writing narratives, specifically focusing on developing an interesting plot, using “tightening tension.” We have also been revising how to use higher level punctuation such as commas, brackets, quotation marks and apostrophes correctly. In Reading Block we have been working on identifying facts and opinions and drawing conclusions. A fact is something that is true and real, an opinion is something that we think and feel.

Wattle Day

Wattle Day is celebrated on the 1st of September each year. Wattle is our national floral emblem and a significant feature of our local suburb. It represents diversity and is one of the first plants to bloom in Spring. During lab time, we used the official website http://www.wattleday.asn.au/ to research some facts about Wattle and Wattle Day.

Goodbye Frida

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our class mate and friend, Frida. Frida has been a wonderful class member and will be greatly missed. The students in Room 14 reflected on all the wonderful character traits Frida possesses. We wish her all the best for the future.

Book Week

In Week 6, we celebrated Book Week. The theme was Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. The students designed and described their own creative creatures and looked amazing dressed up as their favourite book characters. Even the teachers got in on the action!
