New Student Councillors

Congratulations to Alex and Alyssa who were elected, by their peers, to be our Room 23 Student Councillors for Semester Two. I am sure they will do us proud! Thank you to Ava and Connor for your commitment to your role in Semester One. 

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 3! We have another busy, exciting term ahead of us!

I trust everyone had a lovely break. I went to Sydney and managed to get a snap with one of the famous Australian landmarks we’d been learning about in class- the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This term, there is a whole school focus on independence and resilience. These tips below were listed in the last school newsletter:

1. Commit to your child going to school every day on time.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure your child has a bright future is to make sure he or she goes to school every day – and gets there on time.

2. Make sure your child gets enough sleep.

A good night’s sleep consolidates learning, as well as assists future learning. Children need between 10-12 hours of sleep each day. Help kids get sufficient sleep by having a regular bed-time and get-up time each day.

3. Establish work & study habits.
The most successful students are those that develop regular study habits that suit their lifestyle, their study style and their school’s expectations.

4. Develop self-organisational skills.

Successful students are often well-organised, self-directed and self-motivated. Such skills as packing school bags and organising morning routines can be great lessons that impact on how kids perform at school.

Throughout the year, we encourage students to develop their independence by completing their classroom morning routines by themselves. Research has shown that a structured and organised morning routine is conducive to successful student learning. Our focus is on developing this classroom environment, particularly in all Year 2-6 classes. Children are encouraged to enter the classroom prepared to independently organise themselves for the school day ahead.  We look forward to working with parents to ensure the success of this whole school approach.

Reading with Our Buddies

We always love visiting our buddies in Mrs Fletcher’s Kindy Red group. We met in the last week of term to read stories together. Our buddies are getting very clever!

Congratulations to Maddi, Josmy and Charlotte who received a Merit Award at the final senior assembly of Term 2. These students have worked very hard over the last few weeks and deserve to be commended for their efforts. Room 23 also one the Music Award for the enthusiastic participation in their weekly music lessons. Well done!

              

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

In geography, we have been learning all about famous landmarks around the world. I wonder if those of us going on school holiday adventures will spot any of them?

Multiplication Masters

Congratulations to the students below who have earnt multiplication belts this fortnight. The students are encouraged to practise saying their tables regularly to improve their speed and accuracy.

Technology and Enterprise

In T & E, we designed a coin that was to represent the Bell Tower, a significant Western Australian landmark. We used skewers to etch our designs into air dry clay and painted them. We then evaluated our products to see how effectively our coins met the success criteria.
