NAPLAN Update

NAPLAN testing will be conducted this week, commencing tomorrow. The students are a mixture of nerves and excitement.

We have been doing some practice NAPLAN questions in class and I have been extremely proud of the way the children have applied themselves to giving it their all.

Here are a few things you can do to support your child at home.

-Please ensure they have plenty of sleep the night before

-In the mornings having a healthy, nutritious breakfast is also beneficial
-They need to be at school by the first siren at 8.30am so they are relaxed and can prepare for the test calmly as the tests are timetabled to start at 8.50am
-Encourage them to give it their absolute best
- Discuss any feeling and emotions they have coming up to and after the tests

Below is the NAPLAN timetable:

TUESDAY

8.50am Language Conventions
10.50am Writing

WEDNESDAY

8.50am Reading

THURSDAY

8.50am Mathematics

Please ensure your child is present and prompt for each test, as a catch up test may not be possible, due to time constraints. There will be test conditions once each test has commenced and no movement in or out of the classroom, to avoid disruptions.

I am sure that each child is going to give the test their all. It is a fantastic opportunity to see where your child sits in relation to other children around Australia.

If you have any questions, please come and see me.

Thank you,

Miss B

Welcome to Term 2

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to Term 2!

The first two weeks have flown by and the students have all got to work straight away, which has been very pleasing.

We are very excited to have ECU student, Miss McKercher, join us in Room 24 this term. Miss McKercher is completing her final teaching practice at Wattle Grove and will be with us for the duration of Term 2.

In Maths, students have been learning about the features of 3D shapes, as well as revising column addition and subtraction with regrouping and a revision of statistics and graphing.

Our literacy groups are back underway. The students have been revising and learning new phonics sounds. In comprehension, we have been learning about author’s purpose and using venn diagrams to compare texts. We have been looking at plurals and the various spelling rules. Did you know that "if a noun ends in a y and the letter before is a consonant, we have to change the y to an i and add es?"

In HASS, the students have been enjoying Genius Hour. Each Friday, students have been using their inquiry skills to pose questions, research and collect information about their chosen celebration/commemoration. They will then be responsible for sharing their information with the class, later in the term.

In Science, students have been investigating the similarities and differences between living and non-living things and categorising plants and animals, according to their unique features.

This term, our focus value is resilience. We will be exploring what this means and looking for opportunities to build these skills over the term.

We are in for a busy but exciting Term!

Kind regards,
Miss B

Super Readers

We are very excited that Literacy Pro is up and running. Our class goal is to read 150 000 words by the end of Week 8 and we are SO close! Krissy and Gazal have been doing a sensational job of reading books at their level and taking lots of quizzes and have both earnt their Red Certificate. Alby and Deep have been doing a great job too and have each received their Blue Certificate. Your child’s log in details can be found in their motivation journal. Keep reading Room 24!

Congratulations

Congratulations to Krissy, Naomi and Chloe who received Merit Awards at the last Senior Assembly.
