VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Responsibility
When I grow up...
In Term Two, we have been looking at how technology has changed and evolved over time. We also looked at how people also change over time. Thanks to all the mums and dads for bringing in baby photos for our "Guess the Baby Competition." We then used these to form a timeline of what we were like as a baby, what we can do now, where we think we will be in 10 years time and what it will be like to be old. We had quite a few laughs when Miss B turned us all into old people, using a fun IPad app called, "Aging Booth."
Room 12 Minibeast Museum
This term in Science, we have been exploring Biological Science. This is the study of living things. We learnt that all living things grow and change over time. We have used non-fiction texts to develop an information report on a chosen minibeast and got creative, producing some excellent cinquain poems. A highlight this term had been the Minieast Museum. Here are Chloe and Elijah, engaged in some fun activities!
Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser
On Thursday the 19th June, students dressed up in red and brought a gold coin donation the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event was a great success, with over $500 being raised! A special mention and thank you to Toby, for his fantastic presentation on what it's like to know someone with Cystic Fibrosis, complete with set of handmade lungs!
Around the world with Room 12
In Geography this term, we have been learning about the continents of the world. There are 7 continents in total; Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America. We looked at the World Map and recognised where our peers were born. Most of us were born in Australia but a handful of our friends have come from Asia, Europe and even Africa. We have learnt how to say hello in different languages and have enjoyed discovering a new continent each week!
WA DAY 2014
To celebrate WA Day, Room 12 investigated some of the things that make Western Australia unique. We made posters persuading people to visit, including all of our fabulous landmarks. We looked at the state flag and learnt that our state colours are black and gold and that our state emblem is the Black Swan. We made origami Black Swans and researched these beautiful creatures. Here are some of the things we found out:
1. Black swans can grow up to 1.3 metres tall
2. They are known for their bright red beaks.
3. Underneath their wings their feathers are white.
4. The main predators of Black Swans are foxes, dogs and cats.
We learnt that it isn't very responsible to feed the swans because they can forget how to look for their own food and get very sick and even die. We then invited the Year 3s from Room 14 and the Year 1s from Room 13 to come and see our work and had lots of fun sharing all our new information and showing them our work!

Constable Care Incursion
On June 9th, Constable Care came to visit Wattle Grove Primary. The children from K-3 enjoyed a puppet show around the 'Celebration' them, an acknowledgement of cultural diversity. The students found the show highly entertaining and learnt some interesting new facts about the past times and cuisines enjoyed by other cultures. Congratulations to Elaha, who was the lucky recipient of a book prize!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to our Merit Award winners for this month; Cameron, Kristel and Emily. Cameron and Kristel were also acknowledged for scoring in the Top 5 of their year levels in the Term 1 Principal's Challenge. An outstanding achievement. Well done!
Literacy Update
Over the last few weeks we have been learning about quotation marks. Quotation marks, or speech marks, look like a 6 and a 99 in the air and go around what a character is saying. We read the big book Mrs Wishy Washy, a story about some naughty animals who get all dirty, just after Mrs Wishy Washy has just given them a bath. We then used out imagination to think about what Mrs Wishy Washy might have said to the animals when she found them rolling in the mud again.
