Assembly Update

Hi,
As I am sure you are aware, our class assembly is being held on Friday, October 28. We are presenting with Miss Lockyer's Year Three class and the theme is figurative language. You should have received a note earlier in the week, where students brainstormed costume ideas for their chosen sound effect. These can be kept quite simple with coloured clothing, masks, drawn objects pinned on a t-shirt etc. The students are asked to gave costumes finalised for Thursdsay 27th October as we will be having a dress rehearsal in the afternoon.

I have also included the link to the song so that your child can practise it at home if they wish.

If your child has a speaking role, it will be stapled to the note. Encourage your child to use a confident, expressive voice when saying their lines.

Check the blog regularly for further details and thanks for your co-operation. If you have any queries, feel free to pop in after school.

We can't wait!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 4 everyone! It is set to be a very busy term and I have been impressed with the way students have settled back into the school routine, getting ready to achieve their personal learning goals.

Sadly, we have said to good bye to two students this term; Kalani and Audrey. We will miss you but hope you have fun at your new school.

Dancing lessons are under way, in preparation for the annual Presentation Night. Thanks to all those who have paid, although there are still a few payments outstanding. The cost is $35 or $5 a class. It is expected that students participate as this is considered part of fitness for the term. We have also been joining with Miss Lockyer's class to practise for our class assembly, which will be held in Week 3.
We also have our next Science Superstars Assembly scheduled for Week 4. We will be having our class competition in Week 3. Please ensure your child is able to understand the science behind their experiment, explain the method concisely and has the required materials. Thanks for your support.

There are lots of significant events on over the next few weeks. These are listed below for your convenience:

Week 1:
Friday, October 14- Test Books due back to school.

Week 3:
Thursday, October 27- Science Superstars Class Presentations.

Design & Technology

During the last week of term, we completed an integrated project- designing our own show bag! First, we looked at lots of different show bags and talked about the persuasive devices used to try and get us to buy them! We then talked about what we could put on our bags to get people to want to buy our truffles. We talked about a catchy title, bright colours, a cheap price, value for money and lots more. We then drew our design and brainstormed the materials we would need. I was very impressed with the creative ideas the students came up with! Lastly, we made our bag and evaluated it to see how accurately we had followed our plan and to check whether our bag met the discussed success criteria. Check out our awesome show bags below:

Magic Mixtures

To conclude our unit on Chemical Science, the students of Room 23 made some mouth-watering chocolate truffles. We talked about solids and liquids and that we can combine these to form a mixture. They were easy to make and we had lots of fun! Here's what you need to try them at home:

Ingredients:

  • 250g packet of  Milk Arrowroot biscuits
  • 1/3 of a cup of cocoa
  • 395g can of condensed milk
  • Sprinkles, crushed nuts or coconut to decorate
Method:
  1. Crush biscuits in a large snap lock bag until they are a fine powder.
  2. Place in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add cocoa and condensed milk to the biscuits.
  4. Stir until all combined. If the mixture is too dry, add a splash of water.
  5. Roll into small balls.
  6. Roll each ball into the sprinkles/coconut/nuts.
  7. Place on a serving tray.
  8. Refrigerate until cool.
