Pre-Service Teachers
This term, we have two ECU pre-service teachers visiting Room 23 each Thursday. Miss S and Miss Crawford are in their first year of their university studies and are enjoying watching Room 23 in action.
We hope they feel very welcome and will gain a lot from their time at Wattle Grove Primary School.

Week 3 NAPLAN Arrangements
NAPLAN testing is occurring this week. Below is the timetable:
TUESDAY
8.50am Language Conventions
10.50am Writing
WEDNESDAY
8.50am Reading
THURSDAY
8.50am Mathematics
Please ensure your child is present and prompt for each test. There will be test conditions once each test has commenced and no movement in or out of the classroom, to avoid disruptions.
I am sure that each child is going to give the test their all. It is a great opportunity to see where your child sits in relation to other children around Australia.
There will be no homework set this week, so that they can get a good night’s sleep.
Feel free to ask me any questions,
Miss B
HASS Excursion
In HASS this
Semester we have been learning about significant places within our local and
wider community. Just a reminder that we will be heading off to the Bell Tower
and Perth Mint, next Thursday, May 18. We
will be going along with Room 14 and our two pre-service teachers.
We are looking to
leave promptly after the siren, so please ensure your child is on time and read
with their hat and their lunch and water bottle in a plastic bag clearly marked with their name and room
number.
It should be a very
enjoyable and valuable education experience.
Thanks for your
support and prompt return of forms and payment,
Miss B
Maths Update
Over the last few weeks
we have been looking at chance and probability. The students had a great time
sorting a bag of Skittles into the colour groups and working out the chance of
getting each colour. They have been practising writing this as a fraction of a
whole.
Students then
graphed the data they had collected. I hope all the mums and dads got to share some
of the home probability task too!
We have also begun
out Kung Fu Multiplication Challenge. We
began with the super easy White Belt (1 X table). In order to gain their next
belt, students must complete an oral test with the tables in and out of order,
demonstrating rapid recall. Then, each Friday, they complete a written test,
which must be completed in under 2 minutes. Once students have passed both
components, they move up to the next belt.
Literacy Update
This term we have
been learning the spelling rules for plural nouns.
We have also been
revising our homophones. Homophones are two or more words that sound the same
but have different meanings and spellings. Below some of the ladies of Room 23
are modelling the homophones necklaces they made in literacy rotations last
week.
Welcome back for Term 2. The children
are already familiar with routines and it's now expected that they will
maintain the high standards that they demonstrated last term.
It is important that the students
continue to get to school by 8:30 and are wearing the full school uniform. With
the colder weather, please endure that all jackets and jumpers are clearly
labelled with your child's name.
The students are also expected to
bring their homework folder to school every day so they have
somewhere to put notes/work/certificates that they may receive during the day.
Motivation work is marked each Monday
and new work distributed. If students are absent or forget, the new motivation
work is put in their box, to be glued in the next day.

Hipster Bunnies
At Wattle Grove, we enjoy learning about the
cultural celebrations of our classmates. The students loved making their own
unique “Hipster Bunny” for Easter. They used aspects of pattern and symmetry
and were very proud of their finished cards. They looked awesome!
ANZAC Day
It was a lovely, fine day for our ANZAC service,
which was held on the final Thursday of
school. The students demonstrated respect, during the heart felt speeches made
by Lieutenant Chapman and Leading Seaman Kissick from the Navy and George
Korol from the Kalamunda Returned Services League. The lovely donations of flowers was greatly appreciated, and the wreaths looked
most spectacular!
A big thank you to Jo, and all the other
parents, who so generously gave their time to arrange the flower wreaths. Ava
and Connor did a fantastic job of laying our class wreath with our Kindy
buddies. The wreaths were later taken to the Kalamunda War memorial.
