This
week, we studied Helen Keller. She was a girl born deaf and blind, whose
determination to communicate with other was inspiring. Despite her disability,
Helen changed the lives of many through her public speeches and demonstration
of kindness. “The best and most beautiful
things cannot be seen or even touched- but must be felt with the heart.”
The students brainstormed what this might mean and concluded that perhaps Helen
was referring to things like love and kindness. I think they might be on the
right track!
The students enjoyed this task. If your child is interested, I read the students this story from the book, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls. There is also a version for boys called, Boys Who Dare To Be Different.
