Last week, we started our unit of work on narratives with a
cold write. We then looked at a range of fairy tales in our teams and
identified the characters, setting, problem and resolution. Our goal has been
to recognise how tension is created by the author by slowly building the
problem. Miss B showed us this with balloons. The problem starts small and, as
a reader, you don’t feel very worried, but as the problem gets bigger (and
bigger) you start to feel nervous about what will happen next. Luckily, the
main character always solves the problem and there is usually a happy ending.
