Harmony Day 2021

In Week 7, we celebrated Harmony Day. We dressed up in our national costumes and had a special parade in the Undercover Area. Thanks to all the parents for your efforts- the students looked amazing! The art installation organised by Miss Randall & Mrs Agar was, as usual, a beautiful sight. In the afternoon, we met with our Year 4 buddies in Room 16 and decorated paper people in their national costumes. We then put these on display in our classroom as a reminder that ‘everyone belongs’ – the theme of Harmony Day.

Birthday Bees

Happy Birthday to the students who have had a birthday this term. We hope you all had a bee-rilliant day!

Congratulations

Congratulations to Vaiga, Gurdas and Tye for winning Merit Awards at the last Junior Assembly for Term 1. These students have worked  very hard, showing our four class expectations; a positive attitude, active participation, active listening and kindness and respect. Well done!

All About Me Speaking & Listening Task

The students did a fantastic job sharing some information about themselves with the class. I was blown away with their level of preparation and professionalism. The students kept each other accountable, asking their audience questions to check that they were listening carefully. At the end, we reflected on the presentations, using the Star and a Wish framework. Volume and expression were areas that scored well, while maintaining eye contact and adding in some gestures were area to work on for next time. Thanks to all the parents and caregivers who helped the students prepare for this task.

Class Meeting

A few weeks ago, our Student Councillors had their very first meeting. In their learning teams, students discussed issues around the school and brainstormed ideas that might help to create a happier, safer school environment. The students in Room 14 voted on the idea of building a cubby house to cater for the growing number of junior students in the school. I was so proud of the way the students conducted themselves, taking on their roles with responsibility and commitment. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their public speaking skills, ability to solve problems and to resolve conflicts democratically.

Thank you to the students who took on special roles at the Class Meeting-

Chairperson- Sophie

Recorder- Vaiga

Observer- Charles

Time Keeper- Shifan

Congratulations!

At the last Junior Assembly, Room 14 & Room 15 hosted the first Junior Assembly. It was a celebration of Australia's diverse culture. The students presented an entertaining song called, 'Wombat on a Surfboard' and wrote some beautiful acrostic poems about Australia for the Wow Writing display. These are now on display in our classroom.

Congratulations to Sid, Kavish & Alsion on winning Merit Certificates.

Congratulations also to Tye who won the class Values Award and Sophie for winning the Science Award.

Room 14 also came away with the Uniform Award. Well done my Room 14 superstars!!
