Student Fete

Tomorrow is our Student Fete to celebrate the centenary of Wattle Grove Primary! The students in Room 12 have been working hard in their respective committees to ensure that we make the largest profit possible, selling our Scrumptious Slushies!

The "Ideas Team" wrote a letter to Ms Roberts requesting a loan of $50 , which the "Budgeting Team" had calculated would cover the cost of setting up our stall, meticulously designed and thought out by the "Decorating Team." The "Marketing Team" designed a number of posters that are around the school promoting our stall. The "Profit Team" have brainstormed what resources we might be able to purchase with the money we've earnt...after we've paid off our debt of course!

Special mention to Francis, whose catchy jingle, to the tune of "Jingle Bells," won the class competition. An ensemble of students will be performing this at a school assembly this afternoon to entice prospective customers.

This fits into the area of Enterprise, however as you can see this project really integrates all Learning Area and has been most engaging and beneficial for the students as they enter the "real" world of business. I am sure the skills they have learnt will assist them in the future.

Reminders:

  • Students are encouraged to come dressed as a student from 100 years ago.
  • Students are to bring no more than $7 to spend at the various stalls. This should be in a named snap lock bag that will be withheld by the class teacher until the fete commences.
  • This event is for students only. There will be another community fete, to be held in November.

Fairytale Mayhem

Hi,
Today your child received their talk homework for Big Write tomorrow. They are to brainstorm ideas for a "muddled up fairytale."

They will be using these ideas to write their own fairy tale in celebration of Book Week. These will also be incorporated into our class assembly, which is to be held in Week 8.

Could you please talk with your child on the topic tonight and sign the paper, ready for tomorrow's Big Write session.

Thank you for your co-operation,
Miss B

Literacy Update

Room 12 have been working hard in their Writing sessions researching, drafting and typing their School in the Olden Days report. The new laptop trolley that Mr Meachem has set up, means that we can use the computers in our very own classroom! This has given us the opportunity to learn some new ICT skills, such as using the Google search engine and publishing our work using Microsoft Word. Our final poster due date has been extended to Thursday, Week 7 (due to preparation for the Fete next week).

Super Scientists

In Science, we have been finishing off our Biological Sciences unit. Students have been enjoying the Investigation Centre set up in the back of the classroom- classifying animals and making claims about some most mysterious specimens!

Last week, Students worked in their Collaborative Teams to categorise animals into groups, using a Branching Key. We have been making lots of new discoveries about what features make a specimen living or non-living and the differences between a plant and animal. We were fascinated to learn about the sneaky Venus Fly Trap, which is a plant that acts suspiciously like an animal!

Students working together to classify their specimen. Is it and amphibian? Or maybe a reptile?

Congratulations

At the last Senior Assembly, the students of Room 12 took home not just the Music Award but also the Tidy Bag trophy! Congratulations also to our three merit award winners; Francis, Elaha and Yash and also to my Lexile Pro champions; Yash, Toby, Cameron and Ali who earnt a Lexile Certificate. Our class alone have read over 1 000 000 words since beginning the program in Term 2. WOW!

Councillors Lilly and Cameron collect the Music and Tidy Bags award.

Merit Award winners; Elaha, Francis & Yash

Reading Superstar; Yash, Ali, Cameron & Toby

Lapathon 2015

On Friday, August 7th, the students participated in the Lapathon to raise money for iPads. The P & C did a terrific job at organising the event and it was an excellent afternoon had by all! The students are commended on their fine effort, definitely beating Miss B's dismal 5 laps! A big thank you to Cath and Karen G for your help at the "Stamping Station!" Now, we need to make sure we are bringing in our sponsorship money to the school office ASAP. The prizes will be given out once all funds are received.

Semester 2 Student Councillors

After a secret ballad vote, students eagerly awaited the announcement of the new, Semester Two, Student Councillors. I am proud to announce that the Room 12 councillors for this Semester are Cameron Kew (Year 3) and Lilly Nelson (Year 2). Both students have demonstrated responsibility, sound problem solving skills and an excellent standard of classroom behaviour throughout the year and are both very much deserving!

They have already attended the first Student Council meeting, held last week, where they presented our plea to bring back Mathletics. The students presented extremely well, but unfortunately this program is very costly.
