Zoo Excursion

Yesterday, Room 12 went to the Perth Zoo, along with Rooms 17 and 21 as a part of our Science theme. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather. I was so impressed by the behaviour and manners exhibited by the students while in the community. It was a most enjoyable experience. Thanks to Cath, Karen and Jess for being our parent helpers  and also to the others who were so willing to volunteer their time. Unfortunately, we only had 3 spots, but I really appreciate your ongoing support.

Thanks,
Miss B

Paper Bag Book Review

The students did such a great job with their oral presentations about their favourite books. The originality of their ideas and depth of their reviews were most impressive! Our goal for our next speaking and listening task is to make eye contact with our audience, throughout our presentations. Special mentions to Sharon and Toby who both provided extremely engaging presentations....I was very fortunate to escape Toby's itching powder! Well done Room 12.

Big Write

This week, students will be doing a cold write. While the topic will be a surprise, it will be a narrative, so students are encouraged to revise the different features; characters, setting, problem, solution etc.

Jump Off

On Thursday, the 18th of  June, Miss Oliver held a "Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off ." This event was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and already we have raised over $5000! Thank you for supporting this event through your generous donations.

Here's some behind the scenes footage!

Student Council

Last week, our Councilors attended a meeting. They discussed the issue that they thought the juniors needed more sports equipment. During Maths, students conducted a survey to see which type of equipment students would like. We then collated the data into a table and students individually graphed the results. The Councillors will then present their findings to Ms Roberts at the next meeting.

Then, we will use our persuasive writing skills to write a letter to Mr Sherlock and hopefully our request will be successful!

Funny, Wacky, Goofy Adjective Stories

In Literacy, Room 12 have been learning about adjectives and adverbs. Below are some examples of fabulous writing that got selected by their peers as being particularly entertaining. Enjoy!

One day I went to the zoo.first I saw the ginormous and fat gorilla. Then I saw the majestic and fierce striped tiger. I saw a speedy snake that had humongous fangs. I saw all different beautiful birds and fish. We saw monkeys with exercised arms, feet and tails. I like the giraffe because it had a large neck so it could the leaves of the giant trees. Then I saw the courageous jaguar run. Then we saw a dangerous hippopotamus . We were so tired,we took a little nap,we saw the fat elephant quietly shoot out water from the big and long trunk. Then we went home, that was enough for one day.

One magical day I went to the weird zoo. First I saw a dangerous, humongous gorilla. Then I saw the black and yellow striped tiger. I saw a poisonous snake with broken fangs. I saw all different outstanding birds and fish. We saw monkeys with insane arms, feet and tails. I liked the giraffe because it had a stunning neck so it could get the leaves of the pretty trees. Then I saw the fast jaguar run. Then we saw the fat hippopotamus. We were so tired, we took a tiny nap. We saw the huge elephant quickly shoot out water from his cool trunk. Then we went home, that was enough for one nice day.

Literacy Pro Update

Literacy Pro is continuing to be a popular activity among the Year 3s. It is great to see the students so engaged in reading books. Last week, students Lexile level was retested and a letter was sent home. It was pleasing to see that most students had maid significant gains in their level of reading comprehension. Students are reminded to choose books at their level, read the whole book and take the quiz straight after completing the book to increase their pass rate.

Toby Bailye was presented with a Blue Certificate at the last Senior Assembly and has read over 156 000 words this term! Most impressive, Toby. I'm sure all the students in Room 12 will be keeping Mrs Grainger busy typing up many more certificates!

Below are the impressive stats. Keep reading Year 3s!

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser

On Friday, May 26th, Wattle Grove held a "Go Red" Day to develop awareness of Cystic Fibrosis, This is one of the most common, life threatening diseases, affecting children. Every four days a baby born will have the degenerative respiratory illness.

Room 23 did a fabulous job selling merchandise and raffle tickets for the cause and, together with the generous donations of families, Wattle Grove Primary raised over $2300! The funds will go towards hopefully finding a cure for this condition.

Congratulations to Sharnie and Cameorn, who won first and second place in the raffle, winning a bouquet of  a dozen roses and a box of Roses chocolates. Thanks again for supporting this event and all your generous donations.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our Merit Certificate winners for May- Ali, Aliyah and Lilly. You have all demonstrated excellent work standards and  should be very proud of your efforts. It is always a tough decision as there are so many hard workers in Room 12! I wonder who our next winners will be.
